Academic Team
Mainland's Academic Team is one of the finest in the area. The Academic Team represents Mainland Regional High School in academic competitions and with Mainland's strong group of talented minds, we always have a winning team.

Goals/Objectives: To represent Mainland Regional High School in academic competitions.
- Members of the Academic Team, alternates & managers are governed in their behavior the general rules and regulations of MRHS outlined in the Student Handbook. Members are expected to attend and to perform in all competitions the academic team enters. Any excused absence from a competition follows the same policy established for receiving an excused absence from a regular school day. Failure to fulfill the guidelines of the excused absence policy results in dismissal from the Academic Team. Members of the Academic Team are expected to attend and to participate, as directed by the coach, in the practices and preparations held between competitions. Members of the Academic Team are expected to act at all times in the best interests of the team and Mainland Regional High School.
Number of meetings: as needed
The Mainland Regional High School Academic Team competed in the 13th Annual Academic Triathlon sponsored by Egg Harbor Township High School. The Mainland “Green” team won the tournament marking the 12th time Mainland has won this competition. The Mainland “White” team ended up tied for 6th with Hammonton’s top teams. The winning team members received certificates and a donation of $100 was made to the Red Cross Haitian Relief Fund in the name of the Mainland Regional Academic Team.
The first round was Humanities (History, Literature, Mythology, and Philosophy) and the Arts (Fine Arts and Performing Arts); the second round was Math and the Sciences; and the third round was Current Events, Sports and Entertainment, and Popular Culture. In the first round the “Green” team scored 150 points and was tied for third and the “White” team scored 90 points and was tied for ninth place. With the second round score of 210 the “Green” team tied for first and scoring 130 points put the “White” team in 8th place. In the final round the “White” scored a tournament high 230 points and surged up to a 6th place tie, while the “Green” team scored 220 points to win by 30 points over the host team EHT “Black”
Our “Green” team was captained by Amanda Llewellyn assisted by Maung Aung, Breanna Bancheri, Zach Barth, Victoria Blake, and Vincent Butrus. The Mainland “White” team had Jeff Jones as captain with Nirjar Chakraborty, Nick Kafkalas, Sarah Schutz, Lillian Stellitano, and Cole Tyman.

Mainland Regional High School’s Academic Team won a statewide tournament, the High Tech Academic Bowl.
On January 5th and 11th the Mainland Regional High School Academic Team competed in the Fourth Annual High Tech Academic Bowl sponsored by the High Tech High School Academic Team. The purpose of the tournament is to provide a venue where 36 of the top Academic Teams in the State of New Jersey can compete in head to head matches with topics selected from the following disciplines: Literature, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, General Electives and General Knowledge. The scores of the three preliminary matches on January 5 lead to the top eight teams returning for the Quarterfinals, Semi-Finals and Finals on January 11.
Mainland had two teams entered and both made it to the Quarterfinals. Amanda Llewellyn (Captain), Breanna Bancheri, Zach Barth, Victoria Blake, Vincent Butrus, and Lillian Stellitano comprised the Varsity 1 team; and Jeff Jones, Anuradha Bhowmik, Ben Brezel , Nirjhar Chakraborty, Sarah Schutz, Cole Tyman, and Nick Kafkalas made up the Varsity 2 team.

The Mainland Varsity 1 team defeated Allied Health Academy 1750 to 700 in the first preliminary round, Monroe 2 Township High School 1725 to 425 in the second round, and Biotech Academy 1625 to 250 in the third round. The Mainland Varsity 2 team lost by one 25 point question to Monroe 1 in round one 825 to 900 (the winning team receives a 50 point bonus), defeated MAST (The Marine Academy of Science and Technology)3 1100 to 425, and defeated Neptune 1 975 to 200 in the third round.
As a result of the preliminary results, Mainland Varsity 1 was the top seed in the Final rounds and Mainland Varsity 2 was the eighth seed. Consequently, the Mainland teams had to face each other in the Quarterfinals on January 11. It was a well contested match and the Varsity 2 scored the highest number of points against the Varsity 1 team in the entire tournament but fell to the V1 team 1375 to 1100. In the Semifinal, the Varsity 1 team defeated The Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST 1) 900 to 525. In the Finals, the Varsity 1 team defeated the Leonia High School 1625 to 775. In the Consolation round, the Varsity 2 team defeated Wayne Hills.
