** This course is presented in a collaborative environment.  This means that students will work primarily in groups investigating concepts through guided lesson in the book.  The teacher will introduce the task, prompt groups through the lesson, and bring closure to the lesson trough class discussion.  Assessment will be given both in a group and individual format.  This means that there will be quizzes/tests that are taken as a group and as individuals.

Assessments/Grading:

Quarter grades will be determined by assessments of content knowledge and demonstration of work ethic. Work ethic includes completion of assignments, class participation, and organization of notebook.

Notebook:

Organization is an important aspect all activities and is especially important in math.  Therefore you will be required to keep a Math Notebook.  This will be made of a three-ring binder and loose-leaf paper and will be only written in pencil.  The notebook will begin with this signed document followed by three sections.  The first section will be for you Class Notes, the second for your Homework, and the third will be for your Graded Material.  The sections are to be separated by tab dividers. You are required to have each day’s notes in your notebook, plus any other papers given to you throughout the year.  Each day of notes will start on a new side of a sheet of paper with the date at the top of the page.  If you are absent from class then you are still responsible for getting the class notes into your notebook.  The notes must be rewritten in your own handwriting to count as credit.  Printed notes will not count as credit for your notebook grade

*All notes are available online at the teacher’s website by the end of the school day*

 Assignments:

Mathematics is learned best by practice.  Therefore, it is very important that all assignments are honestly attempted each day.  If time is allotted, assignments are to be started in class and finished by the start of the next day’s class.

Assignments will be checked everyday!  When assignments are checked, they are viewed as either Acceptable or Unacceptable. Assignments are viewed as unacceptable if:

  • Every problem is not honestly attempted.
  • All work is not shown for each problem.
  • Having answers only.
  • You do not have it with you

*All lessons and assignments are available online at the teacher’s website *

 Content Knowledge:

Assessment of content knowledge will be in the form of tests, quizzes, or projects.  Quizzes will be given intermitted throughout a unit and tests at the end of a unit.

 Grades:

Quarter grades will be calculated using the sum of 50 % of individual assessment, 30% group assessment, 20% homework.
