School Year 2007-2008 Courses: Pre-Calculus Instructor: Mary Rose Poole Overview: 1. The courses will be taught through lectures, discussions, and hands on applications. 2. Mathematical terminology is an integral part of any math course. Knowledge of vocabulary words will be part of all assessments. 3. Participation in class is expected. 4. Maintenance of an organized notebook is required. 5. Practice problems for daily study will be assigned and checked at teacher’s discretion. 6. Assessments may be in the form of a test, quiz, or a project. General Policies:
Supplies: Each student must have the following 1. Notebook – A three ring binder with loose leaf paper and sections for notes, assignments, and graded materials is recommended. 2. Pencils 3. Eraser 4. Calculator **Calculators - All students should have their own graphing calculator. When possible, students should consider investing in a TI-83 or TI-84 Plus Calculator Assessments/Grading: Quarter grades will be determined by assessments of content knowledge and demonstration of work ethic. Work ethic includes completion of assignments, class participation, and organization of notebook. Notebooks: The notebook is the primary resource for course content and should be well organized. A three ring binder divided into three sections is recommended. The first section will be for your Class Notes, the second for your Homework, and the third will be for your Graded Material. Each day of notes should start on a new side of a sheet of paper with the date at the top of the page. If you are absent from class, you are responsible for getting the class notes into your notebook. Notes will be available online at the end of each day on the Pre-Calculus page of website. You must have the daily notes at any time you seek extra help. Assignments: Mathematics is learned best by practice. Therefore, it is very important that all assignments are honestly attempted each day. If time is allotted, assignments are to be started in class and finished by the start of the next day’s class. Assignments will be checked/graded randomly at the teacher’s discretion. Content Knowledge: Assessment of content knowledge will be in the form of tests, quizzes, or projects. Quizzes will be given intermitted throughout a unit and tests at the end of a unit. Grades: Quarter grades will be calculated using the sum of 50% of test/project average, 25% quiz average, 25% assignments. |
