April Students of the Month

2009

Edgar Bozzi

(nominated by Ms Colombo)

Since September Edgar has made a significant turnaround in class.  It has been a pleasure to see Edgar mature.  Additionally, he has become one of the more consistent students, keeping on top of his classwork, and homework.  His grades on tests, quizzes, and writing assignments have also all significantly improved since the beginning of the year.

Mark Shapiro

(nominated by Mrs. B. Kern)

Mark has made a wonderful adjustment in the past few months.  I have contact with him in my office several times a day for one thing or another.  Pleasure to see and talk with .  He has improved in work and socializes on a friendly basis.  His aide, Mr. Carlson, who has done the world of good with Mark.

Mark Shapiro

(nominated by Mr. Marrone)

Mark has improved his grades and has had no disciplinary referral since February 12, 2009.

Laurie Trejo

(nominated by Ms. Karen Williams)

Laura is a student in my 10th grade college prep English class.  She consistently earns excellent grades, completes all of her homework, and is always on task.  I can always count on Laurie to be well prepared and I look to her to be a leader in the classroom.  Her quiet excellence is something for which all students should strive.  She is appreciative and respectful.  Because of her work ethic and her performance, she will be moving up to honors English next year.

Michael DeCicco

(nominated by Mr. Marascio)

Having coached Mike in Freshmen Football where he was a bit rough around the edges; now, having Mike, as a Junior in my math class he is one of the most respectful young men Mainland has to offer.  He excels in his classes and encourages his classmates to do better.  Watching him grow from a freshman to junior and mature both academically and as a person during this time has been a pleasure.  He is a model of the growing process that Mainland should be proud of.  I recommend Mr. DeCicco with reservations.

Mike DeCicco

(nominated by Ms. Austin)

Mike has “turned it around”.  He made a commitment to change and to excel and he has …most improved

Salcia DeJesus

(nominated by Ms. Colombo)

Salcia is a wonderful student for many reasons.  Salcia always does whatever she can to the best of her ability.  She is one of the most valuable contributors in class, as she knows the answers to questions, asks thoughtful questions, and usually has something insightful to add to the conversation.  Most impressive, however, is Salcia’s genuine desire to know, learn, and grow.
